Eric's Corner: Girl Meets World Pilot Review

Boy Meets World:
-It was great because the setting was realistic, the characters were relatable and realistic, and the problems they encountered were realistic. Cory lived in a very normal looking suburban house.
-Mr. Feeney was a great calming adult voice, always offering advice and always knowing what to do.  He was a great mentor and inspired you to be better within your life.
-Cory, and his friends, grew up very realistically and encountered problems that were realistic and resolved realistically.  (Pilot episode had Cory listening to a Phillies game in school, I did the same thing)

Girl Meets World Pilot:
-Over Grade, B-
-Better than most current Disney Channel shows, only because it had a pre-set idea and had an outside voice (Michael Jacobs)
-The kids, most notably the girls, were still overly dressed and coated with way too much makeup for their age.  Maya was supposed to be a riff-raff, like Shawn, but did not look like it.
-Whats with the "cute boy" who had the Justin Beiber look?
-Farkle?  Was he supposed to be like Minkus?  That is trying way too hard to make it like the old show, it was very unnatural.  Was he a geek or not?
-Cory was very non-believable and awkward in the role of a history teacher.
-Cory and Topanga do NOT look like parents.  Go back and watch the original series and compare the parents in that show to them here. They seem too young, and too "cool".  Most Disney Channel shows are like this now, so I don't blame them, just the times.
-I can't stand Cory pulling the Lucas kid away from Riley.  There was no reason for it, and it was weird.  Cory not only dated, but married and impregnated TWICE, Topanga.  Some kid can't sit next to your daughter and talk to her in the school cafeteria?  Common theme among dads in current D.C. shows that I hate.
-I don't like how the episode has the focus on "cute boys" and dating at this age.  The pilot episode of the original show was about Cory's love for the Phillies and how he disagreed with his brother who took a girl with him to the Phillies game instead of Cory.  They are too young to focus on boys and date like they did.
-I like how they ended it with Mr. Feeney, and it awoke many nostalgic feelings for the original series.  However, I will not let the good feeling that it left me with dismiss the problems and modernization's and the unrealistic style of the rest of the show.  The original show was about realism, a real looking house, realistic lifestyle, and relatable issues for Cory growing up.  This show, like all other D.C. shows now, has the kids looking unrealistically, living in an unrealistic setting, and dealing with issues that were unrelatable.
